Meeting Codes

Open Meeting (O) Meetings of this type are open to alcoholics and their families or friends and to anyone interested in solving a personal drinking problem or helping someone else to solve such a problem. During the meeting there is usually a period for local A.A. announcements, and a treasurer passes the hat to defray costs of the meeting hall, literature, and incidental expenses. The meeting adjourns, often followed by informal visiting over coffee or other light refreshments.
Closed Meeting (C) These meetings are limited to alcoholics. They provide an opportunity for members to share with one another on problems related to drinking patterns and attempts to achieve stable sobriety. They also permit detailed discussion of various elements in the recovery program.
Big Book Study (BB) The A.A. program of recovery is defined by the contents of the book "Alcoholics Anonymous," commonly referred to as the  Big Book by the A.A. fellowship. Big Book Study meetings usually consist of reading from this book, followed by members sharing their experiences on the material that what was read. Big Book Study meetings may be either Closed or Open meetings, as described above.
Step Study (SS) Step Study meetings topics focus on one of the Twelve Steps which comprise the Alchoholics Anonymous program. Step Study meetings may be either Closed or Open meetings, as described above.
Birthday Night (BN) Birthday Night meetings celebrate sobriety achievements of our fellowship, normally reserved for those who have reached one or more years of continuous sobriety. These celebrations are normally conducted on a monthly basis and cake is usually served after the meeting. Birthday nights are often open meetings, even in the groups which normally conduct closed meetings. (See the schedule or check with group members).
Non-Smoking (NS) Most District 4 meetings are non-smoking, including all those at the Tri-Cities Alano Club. All meetings conducted in churches are also non-smoking meetings. Smoking is permitted at a majority of meetings held at the Richland Fellowship Hall.
To Our Guests: Guests at A.A. open meetings are reminded that any opinions or interpretations they may hear are solely those of the speaker involved. All members are free to interpret the recovery program in their own terms, but none can speak for the local group or for A.A. as a whole.
Because A.A. is self supporting through their own contributions we ask non-alcoholics not to contribute when the donation basket is passed. We also ask non-alcoholics to not repeat what they have heard or talk about who they have seen at A.A. meetings.
